Dr. Mary Ryan - Artemis Purely Plants

Dr. MARY RYAN received her MSc and PhD from Oxford University in human biology and medical anthropology. Her collaborations with Dr. Dadhon Jamling in Dharamsala, India, led to groundbreaking methodologies in Tibetan Medicine efficacy research.

At the age of 25, Mary Ryan embarked on her journey as a curious, young scientist to do a Masters in Human Biology and Anthropology at Oxford University. Her quest was to measure the efficacy of Tibetan medical treatments using scientific methodologies, while respecting Tibetan medical doctors.

Her Masters led to a PhD at Oxford, where she set up research trials with the Personal Physician to the Dalai Lama, in Dharamsala, India. This successful research project led to being a visiting scholar at Harvard University. There, Mary mentored with Dr. Herbert Benson and others, in the field of alternative medicine and efficacy research.

After the birth of her first child, Dr. Ryan chose to slow down, enjoy motherhood, and train in Chinese herbal medicine at the New England School of Acupuncture.

Mary then opened her clinic, Blue Dragon Apothecary, in Greenfield, Massachusetts.

Today, Dr. Ryan’s formulas--Pain, Prostate Health, Women’s Balance, and others—bring relief to many people. The success of these formulas led her to take them beyond her small town. Thus, ARTEMIS PURELY PLANTS was born.

She also recently completed a book with Dr. Dadhon Jamling, Personal Physician to the Dalai Lama, entitled Healing Anxiety with Tibetan Medicine (available now).

Dr. Ryan lives in a lake house abutting 150 acres with her artist husband and almost grown children. She can be found late at night cuddling her golden retriever and reading past bedtime about science and herbal medicine. In her free time Mary can be caught in the act of doing house calls, Buddhist hospice care, volunteering at the dump, yakking with beloved neighbors, and madly singing in the mountains.
